Game Update: Mark's Adventure v3.0.0

Game Update:
Mark's Adventure v3.0.0 (Alpha)

Mark's Adventure v3.0.0 brings a massive revamp to the HUD, and all of Mark's animations. In addition, 2 new maps have been added to Mark's dream world with new, stronger Candleflame enemies!

One of the major goals of this update is to continue bringing Mark's Adventure closer to a game than an incomplete project! The game has been marked as an "Alpha" version of the game -- to show that it is still in early and experimental stages.

Update Notes

New Content

  • The game now launches directly, without a message from the Unity engine before the start! The game now starts at a windowed resolution of 1280x800.
  • 2 additional maps have been added to the game:
    • Candlelit Hallway 2
    • Candlelit Hallway 3
  • The EXP gained from defeating enemies has been drastically increased, from 1/10 of the enemy's HP to 1/3 of the enemy's HP. The amount of EXP gained for defeating enemies may change in future, however.
  • The Player Status UI (the UI in the HUD that shows party members' HP/MP/EXP) has been drastically revamped visually! The bars have been changed from circular bars to horizontal bars, and now show the exact numerical amounts inside of each.
  • A skill hotkey bar has been added to the HUD for each player, to show what skills are available with which keys on the keyboard!
  • Added a mini-map on the top-left of the screen, to show the player where they are. Currently, no symbols are drawn yet to indicate where points of attraction are (for example, like symbols for the player, party members, enemies, and portals). These will be implemented at a later date.
  • New fonts have been put into the entire game to replace the Arial font that was used previously. This includes the fonts used in the HUD, with damage hitsplats, and across all the UI in the game.
  • You can now view the new Skill Book window by pressing K. This window now shows the player all of Mark's 4 skills currently in-game:
    • Flash Vortex
    • Light Pillars
    • Lunar's Blessing
    • Angel Dive

Skill Updates

  • All of Mark's animations have undergone a massive revamp to fit Carlos' personality and fluidity better! His attack and skills animations have been especially improved.
  • Mark's 2-hit ground attacks now deal 50% damage each hit, to balance his damage with the other characters in the game.

Additional Updates

  • All players' jog speeds have been increased from 4.5 to 5.2 m/s.
  • An additional bone has been added to Mark's skeleton in his hands. This allows him to now grip his weapon at different angles, allowing much greater flexibility in attacks and animations!
  • The visual size and readability of the game messages, interaction messages, and skill descriptions, has been improved!
  • The player's camera movement settings have been adjusted to better capture fast-paced action:
    • The default dolly sensitivity has been increased.
    • The maximum distance of the camera has been increased.
    • The default tumble sensitivity has been increased.
    • The tumble sensitivity now decreases as the camera increases its distance from the player, for more precise control.
  • The title screen now shows the game version (currently v3.0.0), as well as "Alpha" -- to show that the game is in very early, experimental stages!
  • The title screen now shows the 2kPixel Studios logo!

Bugfixes

  • Starting a "New Game" no longer saves the new game data immediately! This would overwrite your game save data, if you had any.
  • Fixed some issues with continuing and starting a "New Game" in the same game session.
  • Fixed an issue with teleporting through portals, where party members would sometime spawn in the air by mistake.
  • Fixed an issue with loading the game save data when the game encounters an unrecognized map name from the save data.
  • Fixed an issue with loading the game save data when the game encounters an unrecognized map name from the save data.
  • When the player lifts off of input, their movement stays in the same direction now, even if the camera is rotating.
  • Fixed an issue where the player camera would automatically lock-on to nearby enemies after the previous lock-on target is defeated, even after locking off.
  • Fixed an issue where Mark would sometimes perform the wrong attack when pressing multiple attack keys quickly after one another.
  • Fixed an issue where re-applying the Lunar's Blessing buff would accidentally decrease party members' HP and MP down to their unbuffed maximums.
  • Fixed an issue where the EXP bar would take a very long time to fill up to the actual amount of EXP you have at higher levels.
